Susan Leidel ~ Polymer Clay and Mixed Media Artist

EMAIL: sleidel@wightman.ca

I have always been interested in artistic creation.  Over the years I have tried many art and craft forms, but nothing felt right for me until I started working with polymer clay.  I love the bright range of colours and how the clay feels in my hands.  Like clay from the earth, polymer clay can be shaped and carved.  Other techniques such as alcohol inks, foils, textures, mica powder, pan pastels, paint and glitter can be incorporated depending on the desired look.  Once a piece is made it must be cured, sanded multiple times and protected with varnish or resin. Many polymer artists use the clay for jewellery or figurines and, although I do make jewellery and other small items, I have been exploring using clay to create wall art.  I’ve researched other artists who do this, but their work isn’t what I had in mind so I’ve been experimenting to come up with my own look.  My work continues to evolve as I incorporate different techniques and products that are compatible with polymer clay.
